There is always much to do.

They could begin with educating themselves, There are free online classes provided by FEMA at Fema Training online.

They could create a family plan with family members, such as who their out of state contact (check in) person is, making sure they have that number with them at all times. They should also have a location set for where they should meet if their neighborhood has been evacuated.

They could also start organizing their person paperwork, make sure it is all together, perhaps even scanned onto a disc or flash drive.

They should have an extra set of cloths, extra shoes, spare medications and a flashlite in an old backpack, douffle bag, even a plastic bag will work. Keep this bag under their bed in case something happens during sleep hours.

They could practice evacuations from their home. Try it in the dark or while blind folded.

They could keep 2 liter bottle od water in their freezer in case the power goes out. and move them to the fridge to keep parishables longer, when they no longer work for that, then they become a supply of water.

Start storing food, buy an extra can or two every time you shop. Check expiration date every six months, when the date gets close exchange it for another can in your cupboard.

These are just a few ways to start preparing.

They could gather any camping gear, these items are items in a preparedness kit.

I have a gobag for myself and my family. It took a long time to get it organized and it's always a work in progress. But my question is, I have friends and family that want to get started or have a couple of items but they don't have everything they think they would need. How would you suggest they make a plan if they don't have their supplies yet? Are they just out of luck or is there something they can do before they're completely stocked?
