…More about CERT

The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Program educates people about disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact their area and trains them in basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations. Using the training learned in the classroom and during exercises, CERT members can assist others in their neighborhood or workplace following an event when professional responders are not immediately available to help. Licensed Ham Radio Technician : KJ6ALS

Ham Radio is well known as a most important communications backup for our Federal Government in times of emergency. NOAA weather stations usually have ham radio operators and equipment on board to monitor the "spotters" so they can get the severe weather reports out to the public much faster. Many "eyes" on the ground are much better than radar in many cases and  licensed  "hams" volunteer their time, equipment and expert techniques to provide this service to their community and surrounding areas.

Technician class operators now have 10 meter voice privileges
plus CW on 80, 40, 15 and 10 meters! It  authorizes you ALL ham radio privileges above 30 Megahertz (MHz). 1500 watts of power and these privileges include the very popular 2-meter band.

My Future Goals

I have worked to hard to promote "Making the Corralation between disaster preparedness and blood donations" and would like to see blood & platelet donations included in the "to do" list for preparedness.

I would like to see FEMA, Ready.gov, AMR include the coraltion in their literature and public announcements. See my article on the front page for more details.

One accomplishment I have made is that since my first blood drive I have enlisted other neighborhood association to also hold blood drives with in their community not only in district 1 but continue to encourage all 10 districts within San Jose to hold blood drives as well.

I am currently studying to be a State Certified Phlebotomy Technician. I would love to work at Stanford Blood Center someday. I donate there regularly and the people who work there are so kind to everyone. They treat their donors with the upmost kindness & respect so much so that I too aspire be a not just a Phlebotomy Technician but a KIND Phlebotomy Technician.
